Cakes and Wine
The rite of Cakes and Wine serves a dual purpose. One is to share food and drink with those present, including the Gods, and also to ground after the ritual workings. As such, this rite is the last performed before closing the ritual.
CAKES AND WINE
P fills PS’ goblet on the altar with wine, as PS places cakes on the altar pentacle. PS then lifts her goblet, and the P his athame and holds it above the goblet.
PS: MY LORD, THE WOMB OF LIFE AWAITS YOUR SEED
P: MY LADY, I YEARN FOR YOUR INTIMATE EMBRACE
P then plunges his athame into the wine. After he removes it, he then picks up the pentacle with the cakes on it. P and PS alternate dripping wine from the blade onto the cakes as they speak.
P: BREAD OF BODY, WINE OF BLOOD, FOOD OF LIFE
PS: AS WE ARE NOURISHED, LET US BE EVER THANKFUL FOR THESE GIFTS
P: AS WE TAKE IN THIS BOUNTY, LET US, FOR THE MOMENT, BE LIKE THE GODS
PS: MAY WE ALWAYS REMEMBER TO REPLENISH THAT WHICH WE TAKE
P: MAY WE NEVER HUNGER, AND MAY WE NEVER THIRST
P wipes his athame and replaces it on the altar. He then drops a cake into the libation bowl, and the PS pours some wine in after it, both speaking together.
P/S: AS THE GODS GIVE TO US, SO WE GIVE TO THE GODS. LORD AND LADY, IN YOUR HONOR DO WE MAKE THIS LIBATION AND DRINK THIS TOAST. BLESSÈD BE!
ALL: BLESSÈD BE!
PS drinks, and then her goblet is passed deosil around the circle, each participant taking a drink from it (unless they are refraining, in which case it is acceptable to kiss the side of the goblet instead). Then the cakes are passed as well, each taking one. P drains whatever may be left in the goblet when it comes to him.
Food and drink are then passed around if they are to be served in ritual, along with the libation bowl so that each may personally libate a portion. While feasting, discussion of the rite and/or other topics may occur.
Now to Circle Closing.
